CAPTAINS QUARTERS MERCHANDISE:
HAND BLOWN GLASS FISHERMANS FLOATS

floats

Heavy netted glass floats have been used to mark crab traps and float fisherman's nets for over a hundred years. Around the middle of the last century they began using colored glass recycled from the glass factories. Expensive rare colors began to appear like cobalt blue, tomato red, lemon yellow, and amber orange. I used to clean off the barnacles but now I just clean around them so folks can prove they have been to sea. I am not going to say they all have spent time in the ocean but I believe they all were earmarked to spend time there. I hand pick the ones I sell to be full of character with bubbles, swirls, thick, and many with makers marks embossed over the blow pipe hole. The perfect find to add color to a sun filled room or porch.
